BALANCED WEIGHTS

Creator and Designer

Weights for personal use currently offered in the market are either non-adjustable (requiring consumers to purchase multiple weights), only fit for curling exercises, or not aesthetically fit for the home environment. I saw an opportunity to develop adjustable and versatile weights with a design that blends into a home environment so that users do not have to store away the weights, especially in apartments with limited space.

This design process began with group brainstorming in areas such as the target customer, design criteria, and a positioning matrix with similar products. From there, we created a mindmap and framing questions to help us narrow down our product scope. Once we decided to go into aesthetic, multifunctional weights, I worked individually to conceptualize my personal take on the focus.

This is where my balanced weights came in. Taking inspiration from the visual effect of Antelope Canyons/Geode Rocks, I created weights that can stand alone as decorative plates, but could be added onto one another to generate more weight for the weights itself. I created a low fidelity prototype, tested it with users, then produced an upgraded medium fidelity prototype.
